LinksPlus services contain safe, curriculum-based web sites,
which have been selected by teachers and teacher librarians.
We aim to use the online environment to provide teachers
and students with relevant and up to date information that
will progress teaching and learning.
WebLinks for Teacher Librarians has grown from a monthly
magazine first produced in May 1997, to a large online database,
'WebLinks Online' containing thousands of carefully selected
and annotated web sites. These are organised under school
subject
headings
to allow resource discovery.
By 2003 the number of South African subscribers had grown sufficiently
to warrant a South African database with a Curriculum 2005 focus and SA-specific
learning areas. The South African and Australian databases share
a core curriculum, but much search time is devoted to adding sites with
South African/African content or international sites that are relevant
to the South African curriculum content areas.
Our products are available with a single school-wide site licence.
The experience and knowledge gained by the company in the production
of Internet directories has led to the production of LinksPlus MARC, which
can be formatted to load into school library catalogues. The software also
allows the sites to be updated when they change location.
A feature of the LinksPlus products is the Research service, which is
offered to teachers and librarians, who can request topics to be researched.
Appropriate Internet sites are sent to the requester and may be put into
the database to be used in WebLinks and LinksPlus MARC.
